HTC Touch Diamond arrives

htc-diamond01 This morning I just took delivery of a brand new HTC Touch Diamond The Touch Diamond is the latest phone from device maker HTC. The Diamond sports an updated version of TouchFlo, HTC’s new UI which is similar to the iPhone UI. After playing with the device today, there are some good things and some bad things about the device.

The good:

  • User Interface – although a little sluggish switching between apps, i enjoying being able to flick through the screen instead of accessing the start menu
  • Screen – clear and crisp screen, looks beautiful
  • Camera – 3.2 MP camera that auto focuses
  • Opera browser
  • Weather application – I love the rain animation!

The bad:

  • WiFi issues – unable to maintain a connection with my Wireless Router at home
  • ROM doesn't support the 850Mhz there I can only surf at EDGE speeds instead of 7.2Mbps HSDPA

A few weeks ago, HTC also announced the HTC Touch Pro, a device which is very similar to the Diamond, but contains a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and only millimetres thicker! Check out the comparison table below:

Pretty good phones, but if the Pro and/or Diamond had both internal memory AND expansion slots, then I'd be sold. But then again, I guess they aren't meant to replace an iPod or other standalone MP3 players.

    What's the battery life like?

I think the Pro will be more superior as you can put a 32GB SDHC card in there to equal the storage on the iPod Touch. Battery life has been good for me today, but it has only been on GSM & EDGE, no HSDPA testing yet. It's been on for just over 11horus and sitting on 71% battery
